BARCLAYS Bank Jinja has donated an assortment of items, including 100 insecticide treated mosquito nets to pregnant women in Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

The hospital also got mackintosh plastic materials to cover beds, rubbish bins and other cleaning materials like brushes.

Barclay’s employees had earlier cleaned the hospital wards and verandahs as part of their campaign to prevent malaria in pregnant women. “This exercise is geared at thanking the communities from where we operate for their support.

“We decided to support the maternity ward because pregnant women are more vulnerable to malaria, the leading killer in Africa,” Joseph Ekusai, the bank’s community relations affairs chief, said.

Simon Kisabagire, the hospital’s senior administrator, who received the items commended the bank. “This will enhance our campaign to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation at the hospital.”
