ANY institution from the army, a company, an organisation, a family, a community or a small team of five people needs a leader. Being that leader can be one of the most difficult tasks yet it has to be done.

ANY institution from the army, a company, an organisation, a family, a community or a small team of five people needs a leader. Being that leader can be one of the most difficult tasks yet it has to be done.

Leadership, unlike management, focuses on motivating and inspiring others to do what they do best. Management, on the other hand, is about making people do what you want them to do. This distinction highlights the fact that good leaders get others to motivate themselves.

WHAT MAKES ONE A GOOD LEADER?
The foundation of good leadership is for the leader to first tune in before he or she turns on. That is, a good leader should first be comfortable with themselves before they can lead others. In addition, a good leader must possess the following attributes:

Lead by example. Be the first to volunteer if you want volunteers, be the first to help customers if you want people to help customers.

Show your team what the priorities are, and if the worst has to be done, do it first. After that, everything will seem easier.

Tell the truth to foster trust and confidence with their team. Knowing your people’s strengths and enhancing them allows him or her to use more of their potential.

Admit you are not right all the time and apologise when your team-mates have been offended by your actions

Give constant feedback, otherwise your team-mates will create their own and end up figuring out things the wrong way.
