THE 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) with Zain have set June 30 as the deadline for submission of music videos, ahead of the October 10 event in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ugandan artistes, therefore, have four weeks to stand a chance of taking home a golden microphone.
Last year, the inaugural MAMA event was held in Abuja, Nigeria, with the country’s D’Banj emerging the biggest winner.

Uganda was represented by Bebe Cool and Tonix’s. Some of the eligible genres include R&B, Pop, Rock, Alternative, Gospel, Hip-hop, Hip-Life, Rumba, Soul, Electro, Funk, Afro Dance, Dance, Dancehall, Kwaito, Kuduru, Reggae, Afro Pop, Afro Beat, Ndombolo and Zouk.

Alex Okosi, the managing director of MTV Networks Africa, says videos must have well-mixed sound, clear picture and are devoid of nudity, profanity or violence.

If successful, the owner of the video gets considered for selection in one or more of the various voting categories.
