EDITOR—Following Tom Jjulunga’s fate at Rubaga Hospital, I also wish to comment on the way Rubaga staff handle emergency cases.
On June 3, at 3:20am, I took a neighbour of mine who had been knocked by a car on Entebbe road to Rubaga Hospital.

On reaching there, the first thing the cashier told us was that we had to pay first before admission!
The patient was bleeding so much that we were forced to wrap a polythene sheet around his leg.

Eventually, they called in a nurse who looked at the injury once and ran out of the room. She told the cashier that she couldn’t bear the sight of the wound and couldn’t handle the case!

Now, why was the nurse seeking advice from a cashier? I thought the nurse knew better what was expected to be done!

EDITOR—On June 11, The new Vision reported how Tom Jjulunga was denied medical attention at Rubaga Hospital because, from their assessment, he would not meet his medical bills! If it is true, then such behaviour in a faith-based hospital speaks volumes of what is going on at Rubaga.

Where does a cashier get the authority to decide who gets treatment or not in such a big hospital?

This means money rules the operations of the hospital! Rubaga has been in the media before for similar behaviour. I know the hospital receives over sh100m per year of public money through the Public Health Care programme.
How could they then deny such a helpless man even emergency care?

What happens to other needy patients who, by bad luck, find themselves in this hospital? The medical council should take up this case. There is no amount of money worth human life.

Please, Rubaga hospital staff, shape up and see the Jesus you serve through the many needy but not the moneyed few.
