COCA-COLA have offered sh400m to the rugby union URU to support talent development in Ugandan schools until 2011.

URU intends to invest in developing the U-16 and U-23 teams that will feed the national team, and also spread the game outside Kampala.

“I will be happy to see that the national rugby team in the next three years is a product of the schools rugby,” Coca-Cola official Hassan Saleh said after unveiling the sponsorship at the Union offices in Lugogo.

Hassan Saleh, the company’s country commercial manager noted that “ rugby is becoming a popular sport in this country and we have partnered with URU to develop the sport among the youth for the next three years.”

URU Chairman William Blick commended Coke for the timely support and promised to develop the sport country wide.

“Its fantastic. With this funding we are taking the game to another level,” Blick said.

URU has been relying on the annual sh51m international Rugby Board development funds for the development of the sport country wide.
