William Muhairwe,
- MD National Water
and Sewerage Corporation
Any additional qualification puts one at a better advantage at the work place. Having a master’s degree opens one’s understanding to handling issues in a more analytical and in-depth manner. However, this does not mean that one has mastered every aspect of the field they have majored in. It is mandatory for all managers in this company to hold a master’s degree because the experience prepares them to handle bigger challenges.

Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire,
Education minister
While having a master’s degree is very important, the skills for the right job determine the productivity of an employee. A diploma holder might have more experience than one with a master’s degree.
Three things make a good worker, the level of motivation, necessary skills and commitment.

Maggie Kigozi,
Executive director of Uganda Investment Authority
Having a master’s degree warrants having more knowledge. It is, however, not okay to generalise that people with master’s degrees are better workers. Character, experience and work ethics are also major determinants of a productive worker.

Aggrey Kibenge,
PRO Ministry of Education
Ordinarily, an employee with a master’s degree would be more productive. However, the quality of the degree varies, depending on the importance an institution or university gives to training. Some master’s students are given notes to copy. This leaves one wondering about their ability. It is, therefore, not automatic that an employee with a master’s degree will be more productive than one who does not have it.
