MBARARA - Grade II Magistrate Moses Ndifuna has been denied bail and remanded to Luzira Prison. Ndifuna is accused of soliciting a sh200,000 bribe from Murishid Senkayi, a Mbarara-based businessman, on June 16. Ndifuna allegedly asked for the money before ordering for the opening of Sekayi’s business premises, which had been locked on his orders. Justice John Bosco Katusti rejected Ndifuna’s bail application, saying he used foul language when swearing an affidavit.

Fight torture, Odoki urges

KAMPALA - Chief Justice Benjamin Odoki has condemned torture and urged Ugandans to fight and eliminate it in the society. Odoki said custodial torture — the unlawful confinement of a person in a house or facility — was the most widespread form of torture in the country. He said it takes place in police stations and ‘safe’ houses. Odoki made the remarks in a speech read by High Court Judge Rugadya Atwoki at the commemoration of the UN International Day in support of victims of torture at the Railway Gardens.
Buses off the streets
KAMPALA - Buses have resumed parking in the Qualicel Bus Terminal on Nabugabo Road following an agreement between Drake Lubega, the owner of the terminal and bus proprietors on Friday. Lubega agreed that the drivers pay sh40,000 as loading fee and a fine of sh40,000 for defaulters, according to Annet Mutonyi, a manager of one of the bus companies.
