NEW Life Education Centre from Entebbe won the final of the Coca-Cola Under-14 Schools Cup on Saturday.
Raffine Nyanzi finished off a beautiful build up when he tapped home after just eight minutes in what turned out to be the only goal of the final in Tororo.
The result gave the Entebbe side their first soccer title after three attempts, and reversed an early group 1-0 defeat by their opponents Nakivubo Blue Primary School.
New Life stole the hearts of the mammoth crowd at King George stadium as they overcame their opponents’ physique with good inter-play and precision passing.
Pint-sized Edward Lambuye, Jackson Kiberu and Nyanzi dominated the midfield with neat passes.
“I feel very good to have won this cup because we have been waiting to have it for three years,†New Life captain Jackson Kiberu said after the victory.
New Life’s Moses Serwidde was voted the Most Valuable Player MVP at the end of the one-week schools soccer tournament.
Last year’s winners Citizen Parents of Makindye bowed out in the preliminary stage.
The tournament drew 18 primary schools from municipality teams and five divisions of Kampala. It was sponsored by Century Bottling Company to the tune of sh60m.
Coca-Cola brand manager for East and Central Africa Maggie Kigozi, officiated at the closing ceremony and pledged more sponsorship to the annual bonanza.
