Pope Benedict XVI has sent special blessings and a congratulatory message to the students, staff and parents of Sacred Heart Seminary Mubende upon their silver jubilee.

The Pope’s message was delivered by the Bishop of Kiyinda Mityana Diocese, Dr. Joseph Anthony Zziwa, at the cerebrations of the seminary’s Silver Jubilee in Mubende district on Saturday.

“The holy father, Pope Benedict XVI, fondly imparts his apostolic blessings upon Sacred Heart Seminary as a pledge of abundant devine assistance as it celebrates the Silver Jubilee of its foundation,” the message read.

It was read by the caretaker rector of the seminary, Fr. Achilles Kiwanuka. President Yoweri Museveni also sent his congratulatory message to the seminary through state minister for ICT Alintuma Nsambu, an old boy of the seminary.

“The President promised to come and spend some time with you and see how the Government can join to transform the people of Mubende,” the minister said.

Nsambu donated 35 computers to the seminary, thanking the school for ‘grooming him’. “This is where I came for my high school and I have to give something back as a token of my appreciation,” Nsambu said.

The Kampala Archbishop, Emeritus Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, who was the guest of honour, was also recognised for his efforts in starting the seminary.

He performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the seminary’s new storeyed building, which is expected to cost over sh700m.

Wamala also blessed the monument that was donated by the old boys. The seminary, started in 1984 by Cardinal Wamala who was then Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, has produced 53 priests.
