STUDENTS have been warned against resorting to strikes whenever they have disagreements with their school administrators.

The Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Michael Kyomya, said: “It is not good to get out of control when you face disagreements. Learn to solve your differences amicably.”

Kyomya made the remarks at Kiira College Butiki’s thanksgiving service at Christ’s Cathedral in Bugembe.
The function was part of the school’s celebrations to mark 50 years of existence.

Kyomya, a former student of the school, cited the 1971 strike, which he said was the worst of its kind.
He said the strike caused a lot of damage and parents lost trust in the school.

“We should learn from our past mistakes. Let us look at the future with focus and ambition so that our school can grow,” he said.

The school has had a series of activities since last month in preparation of the golden jubilee celebrations slated for July 18. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the guest of honour.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs permanent secretary, Steven Kagoda, who is also the chairperson of the organising committee said: “We want Kiira College Butiki to be a centre of excellence. Currently there is no sector in the country where the school is not represented.”

The chairperson of the Old Boys Association, Peter Okello Jabweri, said the President would lay a foundation stone to mark the 50 years and the old boys would build a multi-purpose auditorium.
