Ugandans living in Algeria were more than excited to have their very own dance and music in Algeria. The mostly student community joined more than 30 visiting Ugandans who had thronged the venue of L’APC De Kouba. Nile Beat troupe riveted the audience with a nonstop performance of traditional instruments and dances from Uganda for an hour.

The Algerians in Kouba, which is about 20km from the capital Algiers, could not take their eyes off the performance either. The show opened with a dance from Busoga (Tamena Ibuga) followed by a dance from Teso. By the end of that performance, the Algerian MCs were shouting ‘Uganda Wayeee (Oyeeee)!’ having learnt it when Nile Beat performed the popular Teso song ‘Emaali’. The Ugandans in the audience roared back and waved the Ugandan flag high. But it was the Nankassa, Bakisimba and Muwogola kiganda dance that really excited the Ugandans. Several fans wrapped sweaters around their waists and joined the dancers on stage. The group saved the best for last, by bringing out their stilt walker near the end.

The dance group performed again at two other venues and are slated for the last performance on July 19. Eventually the Ugandan dance group gave up the stage for a Zimbabwean troupe.
