EMMANUEL Cardinal Wamala has authored The Reflections on the word of God on about the 21 hours he was taken hostage by Saidi Bingo, at Rubaga on February 3, 1992. In the book, the Cardinal gives a commentary on several issues in Ugandan society.

What the cardinal says:
Condom use:

Ugandans seem to think condoms were fabricated to fight AIDS, which is not true. Long before this pandemic came on the scene, condoms were made for prostitutes.

On Bonna Bagaggawale:
It will only benefit people who work hard. God created land and if you use it wisely, you can prosper.

Peace:

A society built on lies and manipulation cannot have real peace. It is through acknowledging one’s own rights and duties and those of other people that truth becomes a strong pillar of peace. Justice is a second pillar of peace. Cries against injustice, corruption and unfair treatment are heard in every corner of this country.

On NRM Government:

Why do you say I don’t support the NRM Government? I used to pay my taxes. I vote, I obey the law, …, what more do they expect me to do? I tell people to love their country, to respect their leaders and to obey the law.

On religious leaders in politics:
It is improper to forbid political statements. I have a right too. We have a right and obligation to speak out. Our obligation to speak out is not from the Government but from the Bible. it is our mission to be the voice of the voiceless.

On the harassment of opposition members:

Uganda is for all of us. Our constitution should protest us, our rights and help us to enjoy our freedoms and liberties.

The way forward in politics:

Uganda needs a government committed to exemplary leadership. Those in charge should be men and women of honesty. All leaders should serve the truth in all circumstances.

Homosexuality in Uganda:
It is very sad. I know these people are funded.
