A TOTAL of 963 students admitted by Makerere University to the 13 new academic programmes that were not accredited are to be redistributed to other courses offered by the university.

However, the Makerere University Business School continuing students on the unaccredited programmes will continue with their studies.

The decisions were reached during a meeting between the parliamentary committee on social services, the education ministry, the National Council for Higher Education and Makerere University yesterday.

On Monday, the committee ordered Makerere University to halt the admission of students for the new academic programmes that had not been accredited by the council until the matter is resolved.

The order followed a protest by Yeko Acato, the assistant executive director of the National Council for Higher Education, to Parliament. Makerere is required to pay for the accreditation.
