The increasing cases of child sacrifice, murder, rape and defilement are a threat to the young generation, an educationist, Dr. JC Muyingo, has said. Muyingo warned that if drug abuse is not checked, the security of innocent children would deteroriate further.
“What has gone wrong in our country? Why are there many atrocities? It’s worrying to see that the horrors are continuing in a way that suggests that there is no ability by those in authority to halt them,†Muyingo said.
He was presiding over the 104th anniversary of Queen of Peace Primary School Lubaga in Lubaga division, Kampala on Sunday. The media has been awash with stories of gruesome murders of children. Only last week, three students were killed; one in Bweyogerere in Wakiso district and others in Njeru and in Kansanga.
The cases, according to the Police, were a combination of child sacrifice and gang rape. Muyingo noted that in the past people would think twice before indulging in crime. He called for the teaching of religious studies and African values to restore the human conscience.
“When someone is religious, he will think twice before indulging in vice. People who want religious education banned from schools are enemies,†he asserted. The headmistress, Sister Mary Orsula, complained that Universal Primary Education funds remained fixed despite the high inflation rates.
