PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has praised his principal private secretary, Amelia Kyambadde, for exposing corruption in Muduuma sub-county in Mpigi district.

Museveni said Kyambadde drew his attention to inflation on the cost of constructing Kamengo road from sh68m to sh360m.

Museveni was yesterday in the area to open Muduuma Seed School, which was built with a grant from the African Development Bank.

It is one of the 25 schools built with a $31m (about sh62b) grant from the bank.

Another case Museveni cited was a maternity ward at Muduuma sub-county health centre, where the chief administrative officer (CAO) had paid the contractors for an incomplete structure.

At the rally held at the sub-county headquarters, Museveni ordered the arrest of the officer, Henry Makumbi, but he was informed that he had been transferred to Mayuge district.

“I am going to follow him up, don’t worry,” he told the cheering crowd.

“I now move with handcuffs. If I find you misappropriating funds, I go with you,” said Museveni, who recently ordered the arrest and handcuffing of several Police officers at Nateete in Kampala.

Museveni then called out the current Mpigi CAO, Solomon Kalibwanyi and the sub-county chief and warned them. “You are in big trouble. Don’t touch kisiraani (evil) money. If I find again a water source that is not functioning in the country, I will fire you (CAOs).”

Kyambadde was given money to start a revolving loan fund and to repair water sources at a cost lower than the previous budget. The area MP, Peter Claver Mutuluza (NRM), recently accused her of using State House funds to undermine him and promote herself as a parliamentary candidate for Mawokota North.

Museveni asked the people not to drag Kyambadde into politics.

“I ask you not to drag her into elections. That will also have its own time,” the President appealed.
