LAST week’s Club Beer Unplugged session at Silk Lounge, gave emphatic smoothies Jamal and Omulangira Suuna a chance to shine. Jamal, (second name Wasswa), has established himself as an R&B heartthrob since he dropped the irresistibly catchy Obba Wuwo.

Omulangira Suuna, who prefers to go by the initials OS, has made himself a name with Luganda versions of international hits like Mamacita and Akon’s Don’t Matter.

Last Thursday night was all crooning and swooning as the two singers lit up Silk Lounge. Omulangira Suuna took to the stage first, belting out most of his popular songs, including Joana, which burned up airwaves in the mid 2000s. But the most engrossing moment was when he was joined by Toniks on January to December, their latest collabo.

Suuna and Toniks are also instrumentalists and they were great on the rhythm guitar and keyboards respectively, prompting the audience to as for an encore.

When Jamal strode onto the stage, his voice was supple and sure, and the responsive band made sure his performance was memorable.

He began with lesser-known Panado and Abakazi Bazira, which did not strike a chord with the audience. But with Obba Wuwo and Anavawa, the audience sang along.

Jamal and Suuna may not be the big stars they want to be, but will be there soon.
