Some sub-county officials from Kyalhumba in Bukonzo East are on the run over alleged embezzlement of funds for agriculture.

The Police in Kasese confirmed on Tuesday that they were holding the Kyalhumba sub-county NAADS coordinator, Wilson Kabisa, while other suspects were still on the run. District Police chief Christopher Kasalawo said they were still investigating the matter.

A source who preferred anonymity alleged that among the wanted people are the LC3 chairman, the sub-county chief and his sub-accountant.

Build toilets, minister urges

WATER and environment minister Maria Mutagamba has rapped people who construct good buildings but fail to accompany them with good sanitation facilities.

She said it is embarrassing for a good and well planned residential house or community structure to lack a toilet.

Mutagamba was on Monday presiding over a fundraising ceremony for Ninzi Primary School in Kalisizo town council, where sh11m was raised in cash and pledges.

Kakuuto MP Mathias Kasamba urged the residents not to vote their leaders out of power based on rumours.

Police foils firearm trade

The Police on Monday foiled a firearm sale to a Kenyan national, recovering a rifle and 30 bullets. The Rapid Response Unit, acting on a tip off, apprehended four people, including a woman.

Tororo district Police chief Gaudencio Okumu said the suspects were arrested in Mella, near the Kenya-Uganda border.

Preliminary investigations show that two of the suspects ferried the gun on Sunday from Soroti to Mella.

It is said that the Kenyan had paid sh800,000 of the sh2m they had agreed upon.
