A mob stoned to death a man as he attempted to behead Mohammed Mboizi. Isaac Kate, 25, a resident of Wanyange village in Jinja district, was murdered on Monday.

“I was heading to school when Kate, who was holding a sharp knife, pounced on me and forced me onto the ground while aiming for my neck,” Mboizi, a teacher at Jinja Preparatory Primary School narrated.

Mboizi said Kate cut his finger, then grabbed his hands between his legs and aimed for his neck. “I made an alarm that prompted passengers in a taxi that was passing by to come to my rescue. Kate rushed to the bushes but residents chased him and stoned him to death,” Mboizi said.

Prior to the incident, Kate had attempted to behead his cousin, Ssanyu Takuwa, at their home but she fled. Some residents suspect that a witchdoctor might have caused more harm on Kate while attempting to treat his madness.

“Kate wanted to cut me as I tried to open the door of his room. I yelled and our mother came to my rescue. He then ran away and in the process he met Mboizi and pounced on him,” Takuwa, a student at Kyambogo University, said.

The south-eastern regional Police spokesperson, Zurah Ganyana , said; “The residents acted unlawfully because Kate had a mental problem. ”

She added that the Police was carrying out investigations and those involved in the murder would be arrested and convicted. Some residents suspect that a witchdoctor might have caused Kate to go mad.
