The Muslim fasting month, or Ramadhan, might start on Friday if the moon is sighted on Thursday, the head of Sharia said yesterday, reports Madinah Tebajjukira.

Sheik Rajab Kakooza also said if the moon was not seen on Thursday evening, the fasting would automatically commence on Saturday.

He urged Muslims to look out for the moon, which he said was likely to show up on Thursday.

Kakooza appealed to all Muslims to be kind and generous to the poor and to pray for peace and Ugandan leaders during Ramadhan.

“Fasting is a holy month and whatever is prayed for is answered,” he said. Muslims are expected to abstain from sex and food until the fast is broken at sunset daily during this period.
