THE Vision Group has boosted the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) with a sh400m three-year sponsorship. Peter Taremwa, the group marketing manager announced the commitment from Uganda’s leading multi-media company at a press conference at the union secretariat at Lugogo yesterday.

The package will cover printing of tickets, magazines, brochures, T-shirts and advertising, among others, during the national team engagements.

“We are excited to be partnering with rugby in this country and we are injecting sh400m of which the biggest bulk will go into services,” Taremwa stated.

“Our contribution is targeting Uganda to qualify for the London 2015 World Cup and I appeal to the managers of the sport to focus on that,” he added.

The Rugby Cranes have an average of four international engagements every year, including the Elgon Cup of which Uganda is hosting the second leg at Kyadondo Rugby Club this Saturday. National coach Yayiro Kasasa has said that his team is set for the showdown against Kenya.

The Cranes fell 30-22 in the first leg in Nairobi and will have to overturn the eight-point deficit to reclaim the title they last won in 2006.

An excited country rugby manager Jacob Bukenya expressed gratitude to Vision Group for having supported URU for the last four years, and now another three years to rugby development.
