UGANDA sports press association USPA has been hailed for ensuring that the good deeds of great journalists of the past are not forgotten.

The parish priest of Christ the King Church and Episcopal Vicar for Kampala Zone, Msgr. Gerald Kalumba Kitatta hailed USPA for exhibiting a social responsibility of remembering its departed members.

“USPA has added value to its profession and has taught us what to do for our fallen heroes. This will keep their souls in peace knowing that we care for them,” Kalumba said.

“Journalists some times write things that don’t educate the community, but you should know that your principal role is to inform and educate society,” Kalumba cautioned journalists.

Msgr. Kalumba said this at a memorial service at Christ the King Church yesterday, organised by USPA in honour of over 31 fallen sports journalists. Buganda sports minister Herbert Semakula was chief guest.

Meanwhile, Lugazi town community will this Saturday join USPA in a road safety campaign.

This will involve a march through the town, painting of the town’s zebra crossing and unveiling of a refurbished monument in memory of former executive members Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu, Francis Batte Jr and Simon Ekarot who perished in an accident on the outskirts of the town while on USPA duty.
