Flora Kisembo, a senior midwife, explains that each breast may increase in weight by as much as 500g and become two bra cup sizes larger.
To retain the youthfulness of breasts, experts give tips on how you can stop your breasts from sagging.
GOOD POSTURE
Kisembo says adopting the right posture while breastfeeding is vital, to prevent your breasts from sagging.
For example, suckling with the baby lying without proper support in the lap or suckling while lying down is harmful for breasts.
Always feed the child in a sitting position. Put the baby in a sitting position on your lap and using your hand, support its head so as to lift it and keep the head steady.
NURSING BRAS
Although some mothers do not like wearing bras, Kisembo advises them to do so. The bra gives proper support to the breasts. “When not properly supported, the breasts will sag with the increasing weight and will permanently stretch the tissues that hold them†Kisembo explains.
Kisembo recommends a bra with wide straps because as the breasts grow heavier, the narrow straps of an ordinary bra cut into the flesh and can cause permanent damage to the shallow tissue over the collar bone.
Grace Lwanga, a dealer in mother care accessories, says nursing bras are a good option. Apart from supporting the breasts, they ease the breastfeeding process and a mother can breastfeed secretly, anywhere.
The bras come in different designs but the one available on the market is the drop down; overlapping bra. It has adjustable shoulder straps with a hook clutch; the cup opens from the top to allow the mother to pull out the breast.

The tops are designed with nursing openings, so you can breastfeed your baby secretly. Some come in a two piece design; all you have to do is to lift the top layer, undo the buttons or unzip and feed your baby.
