Unplugging Aziz, Cindy

AZIZ Azion used to only curtain-raise for other big artistes. That he is the headliner tonight means he is out of the shadows and is a big artiste as well,” remarked Morris Hassa, a former bandmate of Aziz’s.

Hassa was a support act during last Thursday’s Club Beer-sponsored unplugged session at Silk Lounge, which was headlined by new-kid-on-theblock, Aziz Azion and Cindy, the ex-Blu3 star.

Other performers included Ragga Dee, who got a standing ovation for his latest hit song, Mulumulumu (whatever that means). Then there was Bobi Wine’s young brother, Micky Wine, who joined Cindy on their latest collabo, Number One.

“I am so blessed to collaborate with Micky Wine,” Cindy said as she invited Micky Wine on stage. But Micky was not there to sing with his partnerin- crime, Eddie Kenzo, when the latter performed
the duo’s only hit song, Yanimba (She lied to me).

Azion and Cindy performed in turns for the rest of the show, with each one taking a break after every two or three songs. But after more than two hours, there was a certain formulaic monotony to it all.

And by the end of the show, only two of the headliners’ songs attracted protracted ovations from the audience: Cindy’s Ayokyayokya and Azion’s breakout hit, Nkumira Omukwano.
