MTN Heathens will be at full strength in the Uganda Cup that kicks off tomorrow following the return of team captain Brian Tabaruka after a month-long injury layoff, writes Douglas Mazune.

Tabaruka was rushed unconscious to hospital last month after he suffered a concussion in Heathens’ league match against G4S Pirates at Kyadondo. He has resumed training and is expected to be fielded in the Uganda Cup quarterfinal tie against Hima Impis at Kyadondo tomorrow.

“The doctor asked me to rest for one month and it has elapsed. The Uganda Cup will certainly be as competitive as the league was and Heathens will maintain the winning squad,” Tabaruka said.

Heathens, seeking to complete a league and cup double, will face off against Pirates if they both win their fixtures tomorrow.

“The big clashes will start in the semifinals and we are prepared for big battles. Everybody is available and we would certainly want a double,” Tabaruka stated.

Cup finalists Pirates need to go past Toyota Buffaloes to set a likely clash with Heathens. Holders utl Kobs take on minnows Nile at Kampala Club. Kobs will face the winner between Entebbe Mongers and Rhino.

New Kobs coach Herbert Wafula will embark on his pursuit for cup glory with a seemingly easy tie before his tactical abilities are tested in the semifinals.

Pirates that were beaten to the league title by a single point are expected to put up a big fight in the Uganda Cup which they won in 2007.
