THE Movement Government has put in place infrastructure which has enhanced development in the Rwenzori region, the Rwenzururu king has said.
“I thank the Government for the road network, power supply and education projects in the Rwenzori region,†said Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere. “This infrastructure is the most vital for quick development so long as we maintain peace, harmony and unity.â€
Appearing on Messiah Radio FM in Kasese on Monday night, Mumbere said although he was not a politician, he wanted the people to utilise the infrastructure.
He added that he would join President Yoweri Museveni to fight corruption. “We shall not keep quiet when we see someone using resources meant for the public,†he vowed. “We shall immediately inform the relevant authorities to have the person arrested.â€
Museveni recently said the Government had recognised the Rwenzururu kingdom, ending years of agitation for the throne.
Museveni made the announcement in Kasese at the celebrations to mark 25 years of South Rwenzori Diocese.
He repeated his order to have corrupt officers arrested and prosecuted. He also recognised Mumbere as the Rwenzururu king.
The installation is scheduled for October 19, the day Mumbere will make 43 years as the cultural leader of the Bakonzo and Bamba.
Mumbere was coronated King of the Bamba and Bakonzo in 1966 after the death of his father, Isaya Mukirania Kyibanzanga, who had been installed by the clan leaders.
Isaya Mukirania was also the leader of the Rwenzururu Freedom Movement, which was formed by aggrieved communities in the then Toro Kingdom to fight what they called suppression and discrimination.
