What is the job of a Parliamentarian?

WHAT work exactly, do our Parliamentarians do? Doctors treat, teachers teach, sports people compete and I get paid to play my Bass Guitar, write and produce music, organise events etc..

Tangible services are delivered, then one gets their pay.

So, what do our Parliamentarians earn money for? I have heard it so many times from many of our honourable members (from both sides), that the Government spends too much on defence and State House. That may as well be valid, however, to that list of wasted resources, we should add Parliament!

Unlike the opposition parties in Africa that do nothing but oppose, I have a solution that should satisfy most. Let the ‘job’ of being an elected MP (let’s call it a title), be part of our social responsibility. In other words, you are an MP to serve and develop your area out of ‘the love’ for your area. No salary from the Government.

Most MPs have other professions that they should earn a living from. Ok, a little token lunch and transport money on the days committees sit, but that is just about it. MPs should not earn from being just that — MPs. That is not a job, is it?

Let all the money saved from this enormous Parliament of ours be spent on health, education and security.
