THE FIFA Cooper test fate followed Margaret Kubingi in Nairobi yesterday where she again performed below expectations in her quest for the international badge next year.
But her male colleague Khalifan Kanakulya was lucky, passing the test in time and will fly out today to Zimbabwe to officiate the CAF Champions League encounter between home side Monomatapa and Nigeria’s Heartland on Sunday.
Kubingi, who failed the sprints at Namboole on Tuesday, this time managed all the five races with ease but was again let down by endurance. She managed only seven of the 10 laps, which involve a 150m run with intervals of 50m walk.
Local CAF fitness instructor, Haruna Kebba, believes fatigue after the road trip to Nairobi could have contributed to Kubingi’s fate.
“They travelled by road and did not have enough time to recover. She has another chance to travel to Malawi but it would be too expensive,†explained Kebba yesterday.
FIFA instructor Henrik Carlos of South Africa counselled Kubingi, asking her not to lose hope.
“She is the best female referee in the region and she should not lose hope,†said Carlos.
Kanakulya is to partner centre referee Muhammed Ssegonga and assistants Samuel Kayondo and Ali Kalyango, who travelled earlier to Zimbabwe, for the CAF assignment.
