MBALE local council chief finance officer, Michael Malomo, was arrested on Thursday. Malomo was whisked away by the police after the committee chairman, Abdu Katuntu, ruled that Malomo had not only failed to answer questions raised in the auditor general’s report for the financial year 2006/2007 but was also lying to the committee.
Katuntu noted that for the last three consecutive financial years, the council had failed to submit the required documents, which created uncertainty over public funds disbursed to the council.
The committee also learned that the former Chief Administrative Officer, Stephen Ouma, had signed a contract with Star Engineering company which defaulted to pay over Sh43m to the district.
Katuntu warned that his committee would make recommendations to parliament that may lead to some officers losing jobs or facing prosecution.
