THIRTEEN Kampala International University students have been arrested over mob justice. The students were arrested at Nabakuza Hostel in Nabutiti, a Kampala suburb, on Saturday for allegedly beating the care-taker, James Kisambe.

Addressing journalists at the Central Police Station yesterday, the Kampala Metropolitan region deputy spokesperson, Henry Kalulu, said in total, 26 students had been arrested, but some were released after screening.

He said they would be charged with assault. He condemned mob justice, and regretted that university students were inlvoved.

Kisambe was attacked after unknown thugs broke into the room of a female student as she took a bath and stole a laptop computer.

The student, Muhammad Bakunzi, allegedly hired a gang of students to beat up Kisambe into a comma.

The students who were arrested are Roger Mumanyi, David Mzatto, Adni Abubaker, Roden Bihande, Ian Omodi, Victor Nyongesa, Yasin Ahmed and Denis Mumanyi. The others are Darlington Mikala, Bernard Matinda, Benya Nduke and Hashim.

The Police said Kisambe was rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment in “a very critical condition”.

The Police said they recovered stones and wires from the students.

“By behaving like animals, students are acting as if they are not educated when they take the law into their own hands. It is very absurd,” Police spokesman Kalulu said.
