FOOTBALL fans have been given the opportunity to learn more about Africa’s football legends and the development of the game on the continent ahead of the African Cup of Nations next year

FOOTBALL fans have been given the opportunity to learn more about Africa’s football legends and the development of the game on the continent ahead of the African Cup of Nations next year, writes Andrew Kabuura.

A series of 24 episodes will give fans the opportunity to learn all they need to know about Africa’s football stars and the history of football across the continent.

The Stanbic Bank sponsored arrangement, will see each episode running for 48 minutes on both national television and radio.

They will be examining the history and development of the game in Africa, feature interviews with football stars and gurus and provide insight into the preparations for the Africa Nations Cup tournament.

“Standard Bank’s partnership with the Confederation of African Football, and our sponsorship of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations Angola 2010, supports our vision of being a leading Pan African bank, and a financial institution that also actively connects and shares the passion for football with its customers,” said group sponsorship director Clement Motale.

Heads-Up Africa is an exclusive radio programme to be aired on radio stations across seven countries – including Uganda, and will run twice a week on Mondays and Fridays on prime time to give fans regular updates as Africa gears up for the event.

Sixteen African teams will compete for the Cup of Nations title, as well as the five qualifying entrants for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

raw of the tournament will be held in the Angolan capital Luanda on November 20.
