EDITOR—Whoever was behind the recent riots in and around Kampala should go for penitence and then apologise to us all.
On September 10, I was saddened to see a lady walking in her knickers at 4:35pm followed by goons, including two young girls who had undressed her chanting happily “Ekitiibwa kya Bugandaâ€! All of us who witnessed this were shocked. The ‘crime’ this lady had committed was “wearing trousers on the ‘landlord’s’ soilâ€!
Are some non-Baganda hired to undermine our culture or have the Baganda youth degenerated to this level? I learnt later that the unfortunate lady was married and a mother of two!
It may not be easy to prevent riots but I beg future organisers to desist from using the Buganda anthem. Surely, the Kiganda glory has never been involved in arson, rape, theft and obscene language.
