EDITOR—Whoever was behind the recent riots in and around Kampala should go for penitence and then apologise to us all.

On September 10, I was saddened to see a lady walking in her knickers at 4:35pm followed by goons, including two young girls who had undressed her chanting happily “Ekitiibwa kya Buganda”! All of us who witnessed this were shocked. The ‘crime’ this lady had committed was “wearing trousers on the ‘landlord’s’ soil”!

Are some non-Baganda hired to undermine our culture or have the Baganda youth degenerated to this level? I learnt later that the unfortunate lady was married and a mother of two!

It may not be easy to prevent riots but I beg future organisers to desist from using the Buganda anthem. Surely, the Kiganda glory has never been involved in arson, rape, theft and obscene language.
