THE golf squad that ended Uganda’s eight year drought in the East Africa Challenge last month has won the uganda telecom-USPA September sports accolade.

The team outwitted distance runner Geoffrey Kusuro and the national beach volleyball team, who came second and third respectively.

The golfers that made the journalists list for winning the challenge that had eluded them since 2001 gathered 480 points against Kusuro (475) and the beach volleyballers (395).

The team gathered 18.5 points at the regional event to emerge top of Kenya with 16 points Burundi (10), Rwanda (9) and Tanzania (6.5).
UPDF player Flavia Namakula was the last golfer to win a monthly award in July 2008.

Kusuro, 20, was nominated for winning the world mountain running championship in Italy while the volleyballers were recognised for the two silver and a bronze medals in Mombasa. City lawyer Charles Egou earlier took USPA members through litigation procedures.
