DORCUS Inzikuru continued with her impressive recovery by winning the 16th edition of the south Tyrol half marathon in new market, Italy on Sunday.

The former 3000m steeplechase world champion last week won both the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m events for her Italian club Cameloti.

The latest victory is another indication that Inzikuru is steadily improving her endurance in the 21.198km race.

The Arua Gazelle brushed off an early challenge from Italian athlete Federica Dal Ri, the world military games champion over 5000m and sprinted to victory in a near perfect one hour 16 minutes and seven seconds.

“It was quite tough but I held on. I will compete in more road races to recover my fitness before the track and field season starts,” Inzikuru said via email yesterday.

Her winning time is four minutes off the national record of 1:12:20 held by Adero Nyakisi.

It is however promising for a runner who has spent over three years without serious competition.
