AMURIA district leaders have disagreed over the recently released Inspector General of Government (IGG) report. The report, released on September 25, recommends the removal of 13 district officials who were recently appointed.

The report also recommends disbandment of the Amuria District Service Commission over allegations of incompetence and abuse of office.

Amuria Chief Administrative Officer Chrisostom Kayise blames members of the district service commission for ignoring his advice regarding the recruitment. According to the report, 10 parish chiefs, the district engineer, Andrew Opus and the assistant procurement officer, Beatrice Aryokot, were irregularly appointed.

The report accuses the chairman of the district service commission, Nathanie Otallio Arwei, of having a conflict of interest. “The chairman of the district service commission recruited his daughter, Beatrice Ariokot, as assistant procurement officer yet she did not have the required qualifications for that post,” reads the report.

The IGG has given the CAO of Amuria 60 days to cancel the appointment of the officials. Otallio told The New Vision that he declared his position to the commission and stepped aside when Ariokot was doing interviews.

Forty-seven people had been shortlisted for the posts but 11 were added bringing the total to 58. The LC5 chairman, Julius Ochen, declined to comment on the issue, saying he was internalising the report.
