NATIONAL Rally Championship (NRC) leader Ronald Ssebuguzi will resist the temptation to be drawn into an outright battle with old foes Ponsiano Lwakataka and Jas Mangat in the Independence rally in Jinja.
The Jomayi Property Consultants sponsored Ssebuguzi (Mitsubishi Evo4) believes he will overcome the urge to take on Lwakataka (Subaru 8) and Mangat (VW Golf) and instead focus on the national championship.
“Lwakataka and Mangat have nothing to lose so it wouldn’t be wise for me to renew our rivalry,†Ssebuguzi said before heading to Jinja for the penultimate rally event of the season.
“I will take it easy and focus on the current championship contender Mohammed Abdulsamad and Shafiq Ssemujju. I will be happy as long as I finish ahead of them.â€
Ssebuguzi will be flagged off first in the two-day rally that starts with a super special stage at Jinja Agricultural showground this afternoon. He appealed to spectators to keep off the smooth roads. Ssebuguzi will be followed by 19-year-old Shafiq Ssemujju.
Kobil Rally Team’s Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge in a Subaru N 4, will hit the road fourth while Nasser Mutebi of Mogas Rally Team and Lwakataka are fifth and sixth respectively.
“No body should worry about me. I am training a new navigator (Ibra Kiseka) and I can’t be fast. It’s their show we will start winning next season,†said Lwakataka, playing down his chances of mixing it with the top guns this time.
The two-day, eight-stage event organised by Jinja Motor Club is mainly sponsored by petroleum company, Hass.
