THE LC5 council has proposed the creation of two more districts out of Kabale. They said the move would help take services nearer to the people and create emplpyment opportunities for the local population.
The motion was moved on Thursday by the councillor for Rubaya sub-county, Skyluck Kagooma and seconded by most councillors during the budget approval meeting for this financial year.
The councillors said one of the districts will be known as Rubanda and will cover the two counties of Rubanda East and West. The other will be called Rukiga and will comprise Kashambya, Rwamucucu, Kamwezi and Bukinda sub-counties.
Kagooma said the district, with a population of over 600,000, is losing out because it gets the same amount of remittance as districts with smaller populations.
“We hope that with the creation of two more districts, our graduate children from the mushrooming universities will get employment,†said Kagooma.
The council, presided over by the deputy speaker, Mary Bebwajuba, also approved a budget of sh22.5b. The district LC5 chairman, Addison Kakuru, said most of the funds would go to the payment of primary school teachers’ salaries, maintenance of roads, health and agricultural development.
The rest would cover administrative costs, he said.
