Pupils start AIDS drive
KUMI - Primary school pupils in Kumi and Bukedea districts have started music, dance and drama shows in communities to promote HIV/AIDS awareness. The initiative is supported by the Uganda Aids Commission and the Civil Society Fund. Sarah Ongole, the programme manager of Build Africa, the organisation championing the initiative, said the objective of the drama shows was to enhance communication and awareness among pupils and parents on HIV/AIDS prevention.

Man held over defilement

IGANGA - The Police in Nawampiti sub-county are holding a man, who allegedly dragged a 13-year-old girl into a sugarcane plantation and defiled her. Area LC3 chairman Paul Birinde on Tuesday said Yusuf Isanga is suspected to have waylaid the girl as she returned from a shop in Nabiswiga village after 7:00pm. Isanga is said to have gagged the girl and tightly held her hands before tearing off her knickers. He said Isanga would be taken to Iganga Police Station.
