Uganda is well positioned to develop its tourist industry but has a difficult task maintaining its pure environment, a senior airline official has said. John Felix, the senior vice president for Emirates Holidays, said Uganda has “pure nature†compared to other countries that have cities and beaches to show.
“Uganda should fight hard to maintain that,†he added. Felix, who was speaking at his Dubai offices recently, added that Emirates Holidays was weighing up the possibility of promoting an East African tropical safari experience for all countries in the region.
“We have had more than 1000 Ugandans coming for holidays to Dubai and other destinations through Emirates Holidays,†he said.
“We know every detail on the destinations we offer. The comfort we offer in the air naturally extends to the hotel rooms and tour destinations. That’s what we would like to do for safari destinations in East Africa,†he said.
Launched in 1993, Emirates Holidays is the tour-operating arm of Emirates Airlines, it offers a wide range of holiday products for travelers worldwide, covering the air, land and sea.
Emirates Holidays specialises in tailor-made programmes. They handle everything from hotel bookings, transfers, city sight-seeings to informative heritage excursions.
Inclusion of holiday and tourist destinations in Uganda will boost visits by tourists and holiday makers to the country, experts have said.
Uganda recorded a total of 843,864 tourists in 2008 according to immigration figures, falling short off the 1 million mark target.
