THE difference between feminine nails and talons, lies in the care they are given. James Amooti, a nail care specialist at Touch of Class Salon, gives the following tips on how to make your nails look divine.

Wear gloves while doing housework to protect your fingernails from breaking. Excessive hand washing or use of household cleaning solutions, without protection, strip the skin and nails of vital oils and moisture, resulting in ‘peeling’ fingers.

Avoid abrasive nail polish remover because it destroys the nails.

Use moisturising hand lotion, especially after washing, to soften the hands.

After applying hand lotion, massage your hands for a few minutes.

The corners of the toe nails tend to accumulate dirt over time. Clean them using cotton buds soaked in water. Avoid using sharp objects like toothpicks to remove the dirt because they could damage the skin tissue.

Use a toothbrush to clean the surface of the nails.

If part of your nail care includes soaking them in warm water, it is advisable to file them first.

Leave the removal of cuticles to experts to avoid any accidents.

Keep a nail cutter, cotton and nail file in a toilet bag.
