LOCAL rugby governing body URU will cut their transport costs by sh70m over two years after getting a boost from transporters Kampala Coach, Johnson Were reports.

URU chairman William Blick and Kampala Coach general manager Jack Othieno signed a memorandum of understanding at Kyandondo Rugby Club yesterday.

According to the deal, Kampala Coach will transport all national teams to competitions within the East African region.

“Like any other country in Africa, financing sports is a problem. So we came in to save the union on transport costs,” Othieno noted.

The company will cover the Elgon Cup, Bamburi Super Series, Safari, Driftwood and Nakuru Sevens and any other international tournament within the region, Otieno explained.

He said that they will assist upcountry teams and schools because they do not have the resource.

URU chairman William Blick applauded the support saying that it was timely.

“This sponsorship will help our teams play many games in Kenya and Tanzania which is good exposure,” he said.
