MTN Heathens capped their best season ever with a convincing victory over Kenyan giants Mwamba to retain the Makerere Hima 10’s rugby title at Kyadondo Rugby Club yesterday.

Heathens, who are on the verge of reclaiming the Broadband Company Sevens Circuit, added the Hima 10s to the Uganda Cup and Super 8 League crowns.

The 32-year-old workhorse Robert Seguya hogged a huge share of the limelight as he spurred Heathens with two brilliant tries, much to the excitement of a baying home crowd.

However, the local side had to overcome an early scare after conceding a try by Mwamba’s Horris Otieno but quickly recovered to take charge at their home ground. Evans Kingezi and Jude Kirundu made the other tries for Heathens.

Heathens coach/player Peter Magona, whose return to the club this season has seen the Kyadondo side hit the peak, was ecstatic.

“This proves that we are not just strong in Uganda but in the region. Beating a team full of IRB stars is a sign that Heathens is a regional giant,” Magona remarked.

His captain Brian Tabaruka chipped in: “It was the tough of the toughest playing against such stars. We believed in ourselves and made it.”

Heathens claimed the top prizes of sh4m courtesy of main sponsors Hima Cement, while the MVP Seguya pocketed sh500,000.

Entebbe Mongers beat Strathmore University 7-0 to win the Plate while Kobs settled for Bowl.
