POLITICAN maverick Herman Ssemujju has been remanded at Rakai Prison over criminal trespass and damaging of property.

POLITICAN maverick Herman Ssemujju has been remanded at Rakai Prison over criminal trespass and damaging of property.
Kalisizo Grade One Magistrate Carol Kintu on Monday jailed Semujju for two weeks as he awaits for his next appearance in court. He denied the charges.
It is alleged that Ssemujju trespassed on the land of his neighbour, identified as Bosco Karamaga.
The land conflict between Karamaga and Ssemujju started in May.
Karamaga said Ssemujju raided his farm and cut his cows and goats. He added that Ssemujju also destroyed his banana plantation.
The incident took place at Banda village in Kabila sub-county, Rakai district.
Karamaga said he was forced to shift from his land due to pressure from Ssemujju.
He added that Ssemujju mobilised residents to chase him away from his land so that he could turn it into a cattle market.
The acting district Police commander, Henry Kavuma, said the Police had received several complaints from residents concerning Ssemujju’s behaviour, which prompted them to arrest him.
Ssemujju came to the limelight in 1996 when he declared his intention to contest for the presidency.
He, however, failed to get nominated and later moved to the UK where he lived until recently.
Ssemujju surfaced last week when he appeared at President Yoweri Museveni’s rally, where he asked him to re-open the closed Central Broadcasting Services (CBS) FM radio.
In response, Museveni said Ssemujju was an opportunist, who wanted to exploit the Mengo issue for cheap popularity.
