Court orders Police to probe city tycoon

COMMERCIAL Court judge Anna Magezi has ordered the Police to investigate a case in which Hajji Haruna Ssemakula denies signing a memorandum of understanding with Middle North Agencies involving sh50m during a land transaction.

Lawyers, Jehoash Ssendege and Mathias Ssekatawa representing Kampala District Land Board and Middle North Agencies respectively, had submitted that Ssemakula had no claim against Middle North Agencies, because he had been paid in full for the land at Nakawa.
Ssemakula, the managing director of General Parts (U) Limited, however, said the signature on the memorandum of understanding was forged.
“Since the plaintiff denies the signature on the memorandum of understanding between him and Middle North Agencies Limited, I have no alternative but to order the police to thoroughly investigate the matter before the court can decide on it,†the judge ruled on Tuesday.
Ssemakula, through General Parts Uganda Limited, sued Middle North Agencies Limited and Kampala District Land Board (KDLB), seeking compensation for withdrawing a lease for Plot M459 and allocating it to Middle North Agencies Ltd.
The property is located along Mukabya Road, at Nakawa Industrial Area.
However, when the case had come up for hearing on Tuesday, Ssekatawa and Ssendege, submitted that Ssemakula had been paid sh50m by Middle North Agencies Ltd in compensation for the property.
