CAROL Namugenyi spurred the Uganda U-19 women cricket team to the inaugural ICC Africa Cup title in Dar Es Salaam. The tournament concludes today with the prize giving ceremony.

Norman Katende reports that Namugenyi, who had hit a half century as Uganda beat Zambia by a whooping 120 runs on Tuesday, came back with two wickets for 12 runs, as they defended their 106 score and claim the trophy when they edged hosts Tanzania by 32 runs.

The team coached by Raymond Otim capitalised on the bonus of 28 extras from the hosts, in the winner takes-it-all last round robin game in the five-nation event.

With wins in the earlier two games against Kenya and Rwanda, Uganda were declared champions unbeaten.

Tanzania were also unbeaten prior to yesterday’s encounter, giving the tournament a good climax.
