Dear Doctor, I am female. I am worried about my discharge. It is white like porridge and greenish-yellow at times. I have no irritations but its worrying me. Should I seek medical advice? What could be the cause? Desperate Lady
Dear Desperate Lady, THE normal vaginal discharge from a lady is usually colourless and odourless. Greenish-yellowish discharge is usually indicative of an infection.
Infection with bacteria usually gives rise to a greenish-yellowish discharge which may be foul smelling. There may also be no signs of irritation.
It is, however, important to treat these infections because failure to do so can lead to infection of the uterus and tubes and these can cause infertility.
Vaginal candidiasis usually results into a whitish discharge that looks like porridge or spoilt milk. It is possible to have a mixed infection.
You should seek medical advice as soon as possible to avoid more complications.
