PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said marriage in church does not only demonstrate love, but also accords respect to parents.

“It demonstrates that parents have managed to instill discipline in their children so that they do not run away from their homes to get married,” he added.

Museveni made the remarks in a speech delivered by the NRM general secretary, Amama Mbabazi, during the wedding of Jinja Municipality East MP, Nathan Igeme Nabeta, on Saturday.

He wedded Patience Atwijukire Mware of Stanbic Bank.

“Marriage is a major factor which has helped fight challenging socio-economic factors like HIV/AIDS. Parents, please bring up disciplined children and ensure that they are God- fearing,” Museveni urged.

He advised the couple to have good communication, patience, tolerance and forgiveness as these are the foundations of great love.

“I want you to produce many children as soon as possible so that we get people to run this country. Do not take long. I am going to watch closely,” Amama said, drawing laughter.

The ceremomy was conducted by Busoga Diocese Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Michael Kyomya, at All Saints Church, Walukuba in Jinja.

The guests were later hosted to a grand reception at BAT sports ground and an after party at Nile View casino.

He noted that intermarriages are an essential unitary factor of nation building and warned them to always use marriage counselors in case of problems.

The deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, advised the bride to be aware that she had married a politician. “You have to get used to our timetable as MPs are very busy people. We often have to travel on different assignments,” Kadaga noted.

Gen. Salim Saleh said Igeme is an intelligent leader who is advocating for the development of Jinja.

Singer Bebe Cool entertained the guests who comprised of several MPs and politicians from Busoga region.
