BUOYED by victory in the Mbarara Motor Club sprint recently, Nasser Mutebi reckons he can extend his form to this weekend’s Central Motor Club Challenge rally in Mukono.

Mogas Rally Team’s Mutebi (Subaru N 4) has singled out 19-year-old Shafiq Ssemuju, driving a Subaru N 10 car, as the man to beat in the final event of the 2009 National Rally Championship series.

“Ronald Ssebuguzi is most unlikely to be drawn into our battle. I have done route reccing and I would be glad to beat Shafiq without him getting a mechanical problem,” Mutebi said.

“I am always unfortunate but if my car doesn’t disappoint me fans will judge who is quicker.”

Ssebuguzi, who leads the championship with 335 points needs to finish at least sixth to reclaim the national championship that he last won in 2006.

Mutebi and Ssemuju are also battling for the Clubman Rally Championship in which they are just separated by seven points.

Ssemuju still stands a chance of winning both the National Rally Championship and CRC if Ssebuguzi drops out of the race.

The rally organised by newly formed Central Motor Club will start with a super special stage at Festino Cite double track circuit in Mukono on Saturday ahead of the second leg that will be concentrated in Mukono district on Sunday.

The second leg will cover 23 short sections.
