THE National Forestry Authority (NFA) last weeek auctioned 360 lots of timber valued at sh60m.The timber was enroute to Kampala city but was impounded because it was illegally harvested.

Paul Lunakwita, the NFA timber yard supervisor, explained that illegal transportation of timber was still high despite increased enforcement and awareness on better practices.

He said the quality of the impounded timber was continually depreciating as culprits harvest it at night.

“NFA’s own harvested timber of better quality in all sizes is available on stock and in our Nakawa offices. The public should take advantage of better quality timber of all species,” said Lunakwita.
