A woman from Lamur Ora-Tido village, Odek sub-county in Gulu district allegedly burnt her husband and son to death on Wednesday morning.

Jacqueline Akello, 26, is said to have had a quarrel with Alfred Opiyo, 28, who reportedly accused her of having an affair with another man identified only as Odong from Binya parish.

Opiyo was a bodaboda cyclist at Acet trading centre in Omoro county.

At about 12:45am, Akello is said to have set the family hut on fire in which her husband and three-year-old son, Omony Amos, were sleeping.

The Police said the two bodies were found lying on the scorched bed.

Soon after the murder, Akello handed herself in to the Police, saying the incident was haunting her.

The officer in charge of Gulu Police Station, who is also the acting district Police commander, Moses Okello, said Akello would be charged with murder.

“We already have evidence from the suspect herself. She admitted to having burnt the house and killing her husband. She will appear in court on Monday when her file is complete,” Okello said.

He warned shopkeepers against selling inflammable fuels to whoever asks for them.

Okello also warned couples against engaging in domestic violence.

He said the incident was the second of its kind in Odek sub-county this year.

Okello added that recently, 15 people were burnt to death in separate grass-thatched huts after an inter-clan row.
