DEFENDING champions Uganda will meet Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars in the final of the Orange CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Sunday.
The Rwandans overcame Tanzania 2-1 in the second semifinal at the Nyayo National Stadium yesterday.
Yusuf Ndayishime put his side into the lead in the 60th minute when he sidestepped Juma Nyoso before releasing a low shot that beat Tanzania goalkeeper, Muharani Mohammed.
The goal inspired the Amavubi who intensified their attacks to add the second 18 minutes later through captain Mutesa Mafisango. Tanzania reduced the deficit in the 80th minute through Mussa Mgosi.
A red-card on either side was flashed by Kenyan referee Thomas Onyango to Tanzania’s Kevin Yondani (50th) and Rwanda’s Kapet Kovin Didier.
Rwandan coach Eric Nshimiyimana was non-committal in their Sunday final against Uganda Cranes saying 90 minutes will decide the winner.
Tanzania will now take on Zanzibar in a third place play-off tomorrow.
Meanwhile, FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa has offered 30 air tickets worth sh20m to fly home the Cranes on Sunday irrespective of the result.
Mulindwa said it was his personal offer.
Ugandan fans wishing to cheer the Cranes in the final started registering with the Nakivubo stadium manager yesterday.
According to Moses Chuni, who is coordinating the arrangements, even those without passports will be accommodated.
